What are you thankful for?

This November, at Miss Carol's Good Friends, we will be discussing a key component of living in community: THANKFULNESS. We'll be learning about the Thanksgiving holiday--my personal favorite--by talking about what we're thankful for, learning about the history of Thanksgiving, and sharing our family's traditions.

This month we are planting a cover crop of Fava Beans and Austrian Field Peas which will hibernate all winter and sprout in the Spring. The little ones are learning that the cover crops feed the soil with the nutrients it needs to grow strong and healthy plants. We'll also be "harvesting" all these fallen leaves to feed our compost with brown material, which we are also hoping to reap the benefits of in warmer weather!

Our seasonal dish this month is Butternut Squash "Mac N Cheese." This meal is a healthy spin on the toddler classic and we hope that it will expand the little ones palates with new flavors and textures.

We'll also be offering a miniature version of the classic Thanksgiving meal on the Wednesday before the holiday with a turkey roll up, mashed potatoes, green beans, and cranberry sauce.

To expand our understanding of this season, the kiddos will be reading Baby Loves Fall, Thanks for Thanksgiving, and A Turkey For Thanksgiving

Miss Carol's Good Friends is open on 11/10 (Veteran's Day Observed) and closed on 11/23-11/24 for Thanksgiving.

Take a minute, meditate on what you're thankful for and be sure to ask your little ones too. When we ask a child what they're thankful for we get a peek into what is significant to them and a humbling reminder that they are always paying attention and always learning!

lots of love,

Miss Carol
